"L'Usine aux Images" é uma obra póstuma de Ricciotto Canudo que reúne os seus artigos sobre cinema, publicados em diversos periódicos entre 1908 e 1923. Sendo um dos percursores da teoria e da crítica cinematográficas, o autor a quem é atribuída a designação de «Sétima Arte» defende que a especificidade do cinema reside na sua capacidade de síntese entre as Artes do Espaço ou Plásticas e as Artes do Tempo ou Rítmicas, entre o apolíneo e o dionisíaco, entre o real e o ideal, entre a ciência e a arte. Através da análise dos seus textos dedicados à Sétima Arte, pretende-se recuperar a proposta deste autor relativa ao estatuto artístico do Cinema, contribuindo para uma observação da influência das outras Artes no seu domínio, mas também contrariar o cliché que tende a reduzir o contributo teórico de Canudo ao "Manifesto das Sete Artes". Paralelamente, procura-se observar o legado da Teoria das Sete Artes no panorama cinematográfico contemporâneo, reiterando a manutenção da pertinência de alguns dos seus vestígios que ainda hoje continuam a contribuir activamente para a forma como se pensa e teoriza o Cinema.

"L'Usine aux Images" is a posthumous work by Ricciotto Canudo, which brings together his articles on cinema published in various journals between 1908 and 1923. As a pioneer of the theory and film criticism, the author claims that the specificity of cinema lies in its capacity of synthesis between the Arts of space and the Arts of Time, between the Apollonian and Dionysian, between the real and ideal, between science and art. Through the analysis of texts dedicated to the Seventh Art, we intend to recover the proposal of this author, on the status of cinema as art, contributing to an observation of the influence of other arts in their field, but also contrary the cliché that tends to reduce the theoretical contribution of Canudo to the "Manifesto of the Seven Arts". In addition, we look for the legacy of the Theory of Seven Arts in contemporary cinematic landscape, reinforcing the continued relevance of some of the vestiges that still continue to contribute actively to the way we think and theorize cinema.
